Indiana Nurse Arrested on Nursing Home Theft Charges

As reported by Stacy Page Online and the South Bend Tribune, a nurse at an Indiana nursing home was arrested for allegedly stealing from the nursing home’s patients. The charges of theft arose after a resident of Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth discovered a credit card missing.  Indiana State police investigating the theft were able to track down the purchases made with the card which then led them to Alisha Capps. Ms. Capps allegedly took the credit card from the victim and made purchases at several local businesses. Additionally, police found her to be in possession of prescription medication that belonged to another resident of the nursing facility.

Alisha Capps, 26, an LPN (licensed practical nurse), now faces criminal felony charges including forgery, theft, possession of a legend drug, and interfering with the delivery of a prescription drug by a health care provider.

Unfortunately theft among nursing home patients is nothing new because the victims are easy targets for criminals.  This is especially true when the nursing home has invited the criminals in as part of their staff.  In a 2011 report by the Office of Inspector General it was found that 92% of nursing facilities across the country employed at least one person on staff with at least one criminal conviction, for more on this report click here.  Every nursing home resident has the right to have the nursing home protect their property from theft.  If you feel a loved one has become the victim of this type of nursing home neglect report it to authorities immediately.
